Air Quality Health Advisory Issued For Long Island

The forecast air quality can be unhealthy for sensitive groups.

LONG ISLAND, NY — An air quality health advisory was issued for Friday on Long Island, according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

An Air Quality Index (AQI) of 101 is forecast for Friday, which is unhealthy for sensitive groups. Thursday's level is 100.

While high ozone levels are normally restricted to the warm season, fine particles can be high at any time of year, according to the state DEC.

"These pollutants arise from sources such as cars, trucks and power plants, with fine particle levels also enhanced by forest fires and residential burning," the DEC wrote. "To help reduce pollution levels, refrain from unnecessary driving and use public transportation if available."
