HUNTINGTON, NY — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we're working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

This submission comes from Sharon Frawley, who nominated her son, Alex Frawley, of Huntington.

Alex is a high school student, who was given a 3D printer for his 16th birthday in April when the pandemic was in full force on Long Island. He thought it would be great to contribute and use his 3D printer to make face shields due to the lack of personal protective equipment.

Relationship to nominee:
He is my son

Reason for recognition:
Alex studied how to make face shields, ordered supplies and donated face shields nonstop to doctors, nursing homes and Island Harvest. He next sent them out of state and is currently sending them to Latin America with help from Blanca's House charity.

One thing to know:
I feel Alex is an Everyday Hero because he has a kind heart and will go the extra mile to help people.
