Greenlawn, NY — Back-to-school season brings a mix of excitement and nerves — for students, parents and staff alike. Thankfully, Greenlawn is home to everyday school heroes who help make the transition smoother and the school year a little brighter.
From teachers and tutors to bus drivers, cafeteria staff, crossing guards and more, these caring individuals bring steady support and positivity to our schools. To recognize their many contributions — big and small — Patch has partnered with T-Mobile to salute the unsung heroes of back-to-school.

Please describe why this individual is a hero at your school.
Mr. Christopher Havranek is a Social Studies Teacher, in the Harborfields School Disctrict and is a hero for a hundred different reasons. To name a few, he always goes above and beyond to make learning fun. His enthusiasm, and understanding of the kids, leads to fun lessons whether its answering fun questions for attendance, opening all the windows in the classroom to have the kids experience the real-feel weather conditions of Valley Forge in the 1700s. He is always present at after-school activities, running most of them, and also runs the Student Government. He is an amazing role model for the students, and the parents and truly does deserve to be recognized!!

What should your community know about this person?
He is an amazing teacher who deserves to be recognized for all the time and hard work he puts into his job. He connects with his students on a level that is inspiring and touching. He is adored by the staff, and his students, and deserves to be recognized as a school hero!
