HUNTINGTON, NY — Northwell Huntington Hospital received an 'A' rating for hospital safety — the highest available marker — from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization committed to quality and safety in American health care, the hospital announced.

Leapfrog uses up to 30 national performance measures twice a year to produce a grade representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors. Huntington Hospital’s achievement of an 'A,' the gold standard measure of patient safety, "reflects its commitment to the communities it serves," the hospital stated.

"We are incredibly proud to receive an A rating from The Leapfrog Group, which reflects our unwavering commitment to patient safety and the highest standards of care," said Nick Fitterman, president of Huntington Hospital, in a news release. "This rating is a testament to the dedication of our entire team — from doctors and nurses to support staff — who work tirelessly to ensure that every patient receives the safest, highest-quality care possible."

Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Guide is the only rating program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States.

Leapfrog’s goal is to publicly report the patient safety and quality information they gather to benefit consumers, purchasers and referring physicians to assist them in making decisions about where to seek care and where to direct patients.
