Huntington Opens Revolutionary War Archives Ahead Of 250th Anniversary: Report

Vault to open in October to allow residents to view 18th-century documents and artifacts.

HUNTINGTON, NY — Huntington is inviting the public into its archival vault every Tuesday in October to view original Revolutionary War-era documents and artifacts, according to a News 12 Long Island news report.

The exhibit, housed at Huntington Town Hall, highlights the town's connection to the American Revolution and aims to bring local history to life for residents of all ages.

Items on display include the Huntington Declaration of Rights (1774), a historic Oath of Allegiance to King George III and a statue of Nathan Hale, among other letters and memorabilia that illustrate life in the community under British occupation.

Town Archivist Antonia Mattheou, who has overseen the collection for three decades, said hands-on access helps make history tangible for visitors.

"It's very important for the future generations," Mattheou told News 12, adding that seeing the actual documents helps people connect more deeply than reading about events in books.
