Huntington Resident Honored By NYS Economic Development Council

The Suffolk IDA head was recognized for her longstanding commitment to economic development, mentorship, and public service.

HUNTINGTON, NY — Kelly Murphy, executive director and CEO of the Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency, was presented with the Linda J. Hill Leadership Award by the NYS Economic Development Council Women’s Leadership and Diversity Council, according to a news release.

Murphy, a Huntington resident, was recognized for her longstanding commitment to economic
development, mentorship, and public service across Long Island. The Linda J. Hill Award is presented
annually to an individual who demonstrates "exceptional leadership, a strong commitment to
community advancement, and meaningful contributions to the field of economic development."

"I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from the New York State Economic Development
Council," Murphy said in a news release. "This award is a testament to the dedication of the entire Suffolk IDA team. Our shared mission of strengthening the county’s economy, creating jobs, and attracting private investment continues to guide our efforts every day. I’m proud to call Suffolk County home and look forward to the work ahead."

With over two decades of experience, Murphy has been a "cornerstone of Long Island’s economic
development efforts," according to the release.

She has worked under both Democratic and Republican administrations and played a critical role in advancing regional collaboration among the eight IDAs on Long Island. Her work to reduce inter-agency competition and promote unified planning has led to increased efficiency and stronger economic outcomes.

Murphy is also widely respected for her "commitment to mentorship," having supported the careers of numerous economic development professionals throughout New York state.

Suffolk County Executive Edward Romaine praised Murphy’s achievements.

"I extend my sincerest congratulations to Kelly Murphy on receiving this well-earned recognition," Romaine stated. "Her leadership at the Suffolk IDA has resulted in more than $400 million in private investment and the support of over 7,000 jobs. Her impact is felt in every corner of Suffolk County."

Ryan Silva, executive director of NYSEDC, called Murphy the "kind of leader every community hopes to have."

"Experienced, collaborative, and deeply committed to empowering others," Silva said. "She reflects the legacy of Linda Hill through her humility, mentorship, and decades of economic stewardship across Long Island."

Murphy continues to be a leading voice in economic development, advocating for sustainable growth, regional cooperation, and opportunity for all residents of Suffolk County.
