Town Of Huntington Memorial Day: Parades, Wreath Laying, More

Wreaths will honor fallen service members from several conflicts on Sunday. Several parades are scheduled for Monday.

HUNTINGTON, NY — The Town of Huntington is set to host a public Memorial Day Ceremony at 10 a.m. Sunday at Veteran's Plaza at Huntington Town Hall, located at 100 Main St., Huntington. Multiple parades are scheduled around the township, as well.

The wreath laying ceremony will include live patriotic music featuring the Huntington Men’s Chorus, Veteran Color Guard, a rifle salute, "Taps" played on bugle, and "Amazing Grace" played with pipe and drum. Wreaths will be placed to honor fallen service members from World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, women veterans, and the Middle East; Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.

Gold Star Mother Constance Mangano will be in attendance, in memory of her son, New York National Guard Spec. Anthony L. Mangano. Refreshments served following the ceremony.

Memorial Day Parades in the Town of Huntington, all slated for Monday, are as follows, according to the Town of Huntington:

  • What: Huntington Village: American Legion Post 360/Nathan Hale VFW Post 1469.
    • Where: Assembly area will be in the parking lot across from the Huntington Post Office
    • When: Kick off time is noon.
    • Route: They will exit the parking lot onto West Neck Road and head south onto Main Street. Left on Main and head toward Stewart Avenue.
  • What: The Elwood/Commack VFW Post 9263 Annual Memorial Day Parade.
    • Where: Commack/Elwood.
    • When: 10 to 11:30 a.m.
    • Route: Larkfield Road and Jericho Turnpike.
  • What: The Centerport Fire Department Annual Memorial Day Parade
    • Where: Taft Crescent to Park Circle
    • When: 9:45 a.m. commemoration at HBCA Memorial Park on Taft Crescent; 10:30 a.m.
    • Route: Parade to Centerport Fire Department headquarters at 9 Park Circle.
  • What: The Annual Greenlawn Fire Department Memorial Day Parade
    • Where: Greenlawn
    • When: 9 a.m.
    • Route: Corner of West Maple Road and Broadway to Greenlawn Memorial Park at Pulaski Road and Broadway.
  • What: The East Northport Knights of Columbus #6893 Father Judge Council Annual Parade
    • Where: East Northport
    • When: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
    • Route: Clay Pitts and Larkfield roads and heads to John Walsh Memorial Park, next to Northport-East Northport Library.
