Firefighters Battle Late-Night Nesconset House Fire

St. James and Smithtown firefighters assist Nesconset in putting out the blaze.

Firefighters from three fire departments were called out Saturday to extinguish a late-night house fire in Nesconset.

According to Tod Hutchinson, chief of the Nesconset Fire Department, firefighters responded to a call that came in at roughly 11:30 p.m. of a fire at a home on Nesconset Avenue. Hutchinson said the fire started in the basement and worked its way up to the first floor of the home.

The chief said that there was someone in the basement of the home at the time of the fire, who was removed by the firefighters. The resident was taken to the ambulance on scene but refused medical attention.
