UPDATE: Cesspool Worker Dies in Accident at Avalon Commons
Suffolk County police confirm a person has died in the Smithtown residential community.
UPDATE: 11:56 p.m. – The name of the United Cesspool Service worker that died at the sewage treatment plant at Avalon Commons on Tuesday has been released.
Richard Dennison, 43, of Central Islip, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, according to police.
According to police, the cause of death is still unknown and the incident is not believed to be criminal in nature.

UPDATE: 10:13 p.m. – A worker for the Oakdale-based United Cesspool Service was found dead in the sewage treatment plant at Avalon Commons on Tuesday evening, according to police.
Gerard Pelkofsky, commanding officer of the homicide squad, said at approximately 6 p.m. police were called to the housing complex off of Terry Road and Route 347 after the wife of the worker was worried that she had not heard from her husband. When officers arrived they had discovered that someone matching the description of the worker had fallen into the sewage treatment vat.

Pelkofsky said police removed the truck from the plant for safety issues to recover the worker and that they believe he was working alone at the time of the incident.
The name of the worker has not been released.
A police investigation into the incident is underway.

One person is confirmed dead in the sewage treatment plant at Avalon Commons, according to police.
Multiple vehicles from Police Emergency Services are on the scene conducting an investigation into the industrial accident in the housing complex off of Terry Road and Route 347.
Police units arrived on the scene at approximately 7 p.m. to respond to the accident.
