Week in Review: Heroin Ring Arrests; Student Attack Response Criticized

student Gabrielle Petagna took administrators and the school board to task Tuesday night for failing to react following a brutal school bathroom attack that has left her physically and emotionally scarred. 

Community members looking to speak at Board of Education meetings for the Smithtown Central School District will now have less time to do so as the board adopted a policy change reducing speaking time from five minutes to three.

The Smithtown Central School District is one of four Long Island school districts that the Senate Education Committee is looking to help by recently passing bills to restore withheld state aid.

Nissequogue lost a piece of history on the morning of Dec. 30 when a fire ripped through the 14 Rassapeague residence, a home built in 1860 that was once known for making local wine in Smithtown.

Despite operating a successful businesses on Main Street, the owner of  said he doesn't know how much longer he can swallow the blighted properties and lack of destinations along Smithtown's center.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said 96 heroin users, including 41 from Smithtown were arrested in an investigation called “operation heroin highway."
