CHARLOTTE, NC — A woman attacked and bit a flight attendant last week during a trip from Dallas to Charlotte and had to be duct-taped to her seat, an airline spokesperson said.

The passenger was on American Airlines flight 1774 from Dallas-Fort Worth on July 6 and appeared to become agitated, not wanting the plane “to fly up anymore,” one passenger told The Washington Post.

The woman eventually left her seat and tried to open the cabin door midflight, the American Airlines spokesperson said.

Members of the flight crew pulled her away from the door and tried to de-escalate the situation before attempting to restrain her.

During the melee, the airline spokesperson said, the woman “physically assaulted, bit and caused injury to a flight attendant” as crew members struggled to restrain her with flex cuffs.

When she continued to be aggressive, the flight crew used restraint tape to bind her to her seat.

She remained restrained until the flight landed in Charlotte, passengers disembarked, and law enforcement and medical personnel could come on board to give assistance.
