Gas Prices in Charlotte Region Tie 8 Year High
Gas prices are roughly $3.18 on average, much higher than many travelers would like to pay at the pump.

Gas prices in the Charlotte region have tied an 8-year high at $3.18 a gallon for regular unleaded fuel, per data from GasBuddy.
The newest data does include some positive news: gas is down .06 cents from last week. It is still $1.27 higher than last year.
According to CNN, gas prices are at a 7-year high nationally, so Charlotte and Lake Norman are not alone in feeling pain at the pump. The average price nationally is $3.40.

So why is this happening? The supply chain issues affecting a myriad of businesses has not spared fuel. Demand is up, and US oil production is down. Oil has spiked 67 percent this year, but 50 of the largest oil companies have only increased their budgets by 1 percent, per that CNN report.

The cheapest gas in Mecklenburg County is at Costco in Matthews for $2.93 a gallon, followed by QuikTrip on Abermarle Road in Charlotte at $2.99.
The cheapest gas in Iredell County is at Sam's in Mooresville for $3.08 and Costco in Mooresville at the same price.
