Jeff Jackson Makes Decision About A Run For U.S. Senate In 2022

Jackson said his campaign is committing to holding town halls in each of North Carolina's 100 counties.

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, NC — North Carolina Sen. Jeff Jackson is running for U.S. Senate in 2022, he announced Monday.

The race for the North Carolina Senate seat, which is opening up upon the retirement of Republican Sen. Richard Burr, is expected to be pivotal in the equation for party control of the U.S. Senate, CNN reported.

Jackson, 38, is a Captain in the Army National Guard, a former assistant district attorney and has served in the state legislature since 2014.

The Mecklenburg County Democrat made the announcement in a video featuring his wife and children filmed inside their home. "I've decided to run for U.S. Senate," he said. "We're going to make it a 100-county campaign."

Jackson said he plans to hold town halls in every county, "and we'll use what we learn to build an agenda that's actually tailored to our state, not an agenda that's imported from D.C. or from donors."
