Mass COVID-19 Vaccination Plan Unveiled For Charlotte Metro
The collaboration with the Charlotte Speedway and Bank of America Stadium aims to vaccinate 1 million residents by July 4.
CHARLOTTE, NC — A new public-private partnership aims to boost COVID-19 vaccinations in the Charlotte metro through mass vaccination events at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Bank of America Stadium, Atrium Health announced Thursday.
“We look forward to working with our partners to make this happen,” said Gibbie Harris, public health director for Mecklenburg County. “The only way to get the virus behind us is for people to be vaccinated. I also hope that by July, by working together, we can exceed the goal of 1 million people in this region starting to be protected.”
The initiative is in collaboration with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services DHHS, the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, and aims to vaccinate as many frontline workers, members of the general public and of underserved communities as quickly and efficiently as possible, Atrium Health said.

In addition to the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte and the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, a third location is also expected in the Winston-Salem area, the health provider said. Details on the process and timing for vaccinations at the locations will be released in coming days, it said.
“Getting vaccines in people’s arms as quickly and equitably as possible is a top priority for North Carolina,” North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper said in a statement. “Partnerships with businesses, health providers and government like this can help get it done.”
