New Windsor Run Residents Enjoy Personalized Moving Support

Erickson Realty and Moving Services Program provides seamless transition to senior living community in southeast Charlotte

One of the greatest benefits of joining the Priority List at Windsor Run, an Erickson Senior Living community in Matthews, N.C., is exclusive access to Planning and Moving Consultant Andrea Fitzgibbons.

Fitzgibbons provides personalized assistance on all aspects of moving--from space planning and selecting a real estate agent to downsizing and packing--to help seniors simplify their transition to the community.

"My goal is to support Priority List members through every step of their move," says Fitzgibbons.

A ‘game changer'

Sharon and Glenn Mease worked closely with Fitzgibbons in preparation for their move to Windsor Run from their house in Matthews this past March, and it was a game changer.

"Andrea and her team were instrumental in helping us move from the large house we'd lived in for the last 18 years," says Sharon. "She was always patient and kind and knew exactly who to turn to for support at each step in the process."

First steps

After a meeting with the sales team, Sharon and Glenn contacted Fitzgibbons to schedule a home visit--before they reserved a residence at Windsor Run.

During the home visit, Fitzgibbons offered advice, measured furniture, discussed customization options, and answered any questions the couple had.

"The home visit was a helpful first step toward our move," says Glenn. "Andrea came with a copy of the floor plan that we were considering. She went around the house, looking at our furniture and measuring everything we wanted to take with us. Then, she laid it all out on the floor plan--something we could see before she left."

Recommended resources

Knowing that Sharon and Glenn were interested in additional support for their move, Fitzgibbons also provided the names of preferred real estate agents, moving companies, and an online auction partner--all of whom they chose to work with.

"We took our real estate agent's advice to move first and then sell the house," says Sharon. "That way, we didn't have to try and clean and stage the house at the same time that we were getting ready to move. Instead, we were able to do one thing at a time."

Perfectly prepared

The Meases partnered with Windsor Run's preferred senior move manager and moving company to streamline the downsizing and packing stages.

"The help was instrumental," says Glenn. "We had a lot of stuff to go through prior to our move. Plus, we had a lot of our mothers' things, which came to us when they passed away."

Sharon adds, "We also had our own things to consider. Glenn collects trains and I have a pewter collection. There was just so much. Plus, with three children, we kept items from their childhood, such as school papers and stuffed animals."

Streamlined coordination

The senior move manager helped Sharon and Glenn divide their belongings into keep, donate, and auction piles. Once decisions were made, Fitzgibbons and her team coordinated donation pick-ups and online auctions.

They experienced this impressive level of support during their move-in day as well.

"We received valuable help unpacking our bedroom and kitchen so that, on the day we moved, we had

a place to sleep and could move around the kitchen," says Sharon. "That worked out really well, as our new home was immediately livable. Help was also offered for unpacking the rest of our things, but we wanted to do that ourselves, taking the time to find just the right places."

Full steam ahead

Since their move, the Meases have been living life to the fullest, enjoying meals with new neighbors at on-campus restaurants, attending a variety of lectures and concerts, and exploring clubs and activities.

"Everyone, from residents to staff, is so friendly and welcoming," says Sharon. "We've even discovered that an old neighbor and two people Glenn worked with also live here!"

"We are grateful for the help we received to make this move possible," says Glenn. "The biggest piece of advice I have is to use all the help Windsor Run offers."
