What's Open, Closed In Charlotte On Martin Luther King Jr. Day

How does Martin Luther King Jr. Day affect trash pickup? Here are the holiday schedule changes around Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be a little different this time around. With coronavirus cases spiking, many celebrations were canceled. The one thing locals can count on is a scheduled holiday.

Many government services are already affected by coronavirus closures, but the holiday will shake up their hours more.

Here is what's opened and closed on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021:

  • City of Charlotte Offices: Closed
  • Schools and Administrative Offices: Closed
  • U.S. Postal Service: Closed
  • Trash collection: All collection services (recycling, garbage, yard waste and bulky waste) will operate on a one-day delay
  • Mecklenburg County Government Offices: Closed
  • Health Department: Closed
  • The Main Library and all library branches: Closed
  • Solid Waste centers: Closed
  • All recreation centers, senior centers, nature centers and indoor rental facilities will be closed on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021.
  • The Aquatic Center: Closed
  • Parks, Nature Preserves and Greenways: Open
  • CharMeck 311: Closed on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021. Outside regular business hours, CharMeck 311 callers can report water, sewer, storm water and animal issues via an automated service that dispatches assistance. Residents can also submit service requests online 24 hours a day or access dozens of city services by downloading the CLT+ mobile app. Please call 911 for any emergencies.
