- The Marietta City Council had a busy Thursday night and passed seven new ordinances and five new resolutions – five of which had emergency designations. Only five of six council members were present as Councilman Mike Scales is recovering from surgery and expects to return for Jan. 26 committee meetings. The 10 ordinances/resolutions passed unanimously by the present council. The new legislation is available at the link. (Subscription: The Marietta Times)
- Beneficiaries of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will lose extra federal funding from the COVID-19 pandemic in March. The Washington County Job and Family Services is working to find aid and resources for SNAP recipients. Director Flite Freimann said, “SNAP is the most complicated program we run because the eligibility is actually determined by income, family size, resources, expenses, and other special needs.” (Subscription: The Parkersburg News and Sentinel)
- The Washington County Sheriff’s Department donated to a local hospital through their No Shave November initiative. The department raised $1,100 from members who wanted to grow a beard in November 2022, which was then donated to Memorial Health System in Marietta. Specifically, the money goes toward the hospital’s Strecker Patient Emergency Fund. (WTAP)
