Democrats' $3.5 TRILLION Spending Binge

In the middle of the night earlier this week, Chuck Schumer and his Democrat colleagues voted in lockstep and approved Senate Budget Committee Chairman Bernie Sanders’ massive $3.5 trillion spending plan that opens the door for the radical left’s wish list. Make no mistake, this bill will fundamentally change America for the worse. It would reward illegal aliens with citizenship, super-size the welfare state with its biggest expansion in decades, and implement AOC’s Green New Deal, and that’s just for starters.

This $3.5 trillion Trojan horse, written by Sanders, the self-described socialist, would end the use of coal and natural gas and destroy energy jobs and communities in Eastern and Southeastern Ohio. It includes massive tax increases for every American – wiping out wage gains earned during the Trump Administration. And when you factor in how inflation will continue to increase prices on every American, from gasoline to groceries to heating and cooling homes, it’s even worse. I will do everything I can to defeat this sweeping and destructive legislation, and I’m hopeful the American people will raise their voices in opposition so loudly as this bill takes shape that it will be defeated before it ever reaches President Biden’s desk.

Local Chamber Events

Earlier this week, was the 106th Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce Dinner. It was great to see so many small businesses come together to celebrate the many key successes in our community, especially after the many challenges over the past year.

The featured speaker was Wally Kandel, a local business and community leader. I was honored to present him with a congressional proclamation recognizing his many years of community service and his many important contributions to Marietta and Southeast Ohio.

Yesterday, I was in Carrollton to speak with members of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce. I gave them a legislative update and then took some questions. I encouraged the business and local leaders to remain passionate voices for progress and reason in Carroll County, our state, and beyond…and to remain engaged with representatives in Washington and Columbus. It’s unfortunate that too many members of Congress and the state legislature, who make policies that impact businesses, have never owned or run a business. These elected officials need to be educated about what small business owners do, the jobs they create, the challenges they face, and the positive impact their businesses have in the communities in which they live and work.

#Bidinflation: Driving Up Costs on Nearly Everything

Americans are now paying more for virtually everything - driven by reckless government spending by President Biden, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi. Over the past year, consumer prices surged, remaining at their highest levels since 2008. When inflation surges, paychecks decrease. The graphic above shows that over the past year, prices for everyday goods have increased. According to a recent Fox News poll, nearly 80 percent of Americans blame #Bidinflation. I’ll continue to fight against President Biden’s inflation tax by opposing reckless government spending that drives up costs for everyone up and down the Ohio River.

"It's Just Seasonal" - Continued

Last week, I talked about this very issue. We've all heard President Biden and members of his team tell us "the border surge is just seasonal.” Well, that’s simply not true. Already this year, more than 1,000,000 illegal immigrants have crossed the border on Biden’s watch—in less than 7 months. The longer he and Democrats ignore it, the worse it gets. And, to back that up, we have some new numbers in that aren't very encouraging - to say the least. 212,672 migrants were encountered at the southern border in July - a 13% increase from the previous month, which itself was a 20-year high. The numbers have gone up every single month since Biden was sworn in.
Why is this happening? It's simple: The surge of illegal immigration, drugs, and crime at our southern border is directly attributable to Biden's open-borders policies. He has ended the “Remain in Mexico” policy that kept asylum seekers in Mexico until their court date comes up, re-instituted the "catch and release" program that allows tens of thousands of illegals to quietly meld into the fabric of American cities and towns all across America, halted border wall construction that would keep drugs and illegals out, and prohibited US authorities from deporting the overwhelming majority of those here illegally.
