Here are the top stories in Marietta today:
- Yesterday, the city of Marietta celebrated its 235 birthday. As the first established northwest settlement in the country, the city of Marietta was one of the first to give special rights to women and children, prohibit slavery, and other things that were unfathomable at the time. The city's birthday was celebrated with multiple flags raised Friday morning: one at 7 a.m. at the Start Westward Monument and another at 10 a.m. at the Campus Martius Museum. (WTAP)
- Marietta College has secured another football recruit as of Mar. 31: Hudson Kelly from Waverly High School has committed to further his education and football career as a wide receiver for the Pioneers. Hudson's senior year was his first time playing wide receiver full-time in his high school career; he led the team with 46 catches for 751 yards and nine touchdowns. Starting at cornerback during his junior and senior years helped mold him into the receiver he wanted to be early on, and he is expected to continue to develop during his time at Marietta. Hudson had knee surgery in the winter but is now back to working out and rehabbing at full capacity ahead of his freshman year in college. (Pike County News Watchman)
- A heads up for those traveling through Marietta: repairs will be taking place Apr. 10-13 from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. The main line repairs will be at 136 and 137 Wells Ave. so the road will be closed during these time periods; this includes parking on Wells Avenue. Kenwood Avenue and Phillips Street will still be available for local traffic. (WTAP)
