Here are the top three stories today in Marietta:

  1. Marietta College secures another local as Lily Sands of Marietta High School will be continuing her academic and rowing career with the Pioneers. Sands officially committed to Marietta College last week, staying close to home and being the first collegiate rower from her family since her grandfather was a Pioneer in 1950. Sands will be going into college as an environmental engineering major. (WTAP)
  2. Washington State Community College has officially gotten approval to extend its medical schooling opportunities by offering a new nursing bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) program. After years of efforts, the community college was able to get the approval to provide extended learning to those interested, which was a big win considering registered nurses are listed as a top-10 critical job in the state. Since the pandemic, the fragility of the workforce has been exposed, especially in areas like Marietta, and opportunities to expand the field have become a necessity to flourish. With the additional money provided for the college, facilities are being upgraded in preparation for an increase in students. (WTAP)
  3. Marietta business owner Ari Gold filed a complaint with the Ohio Supreme Court after his name was removed from the primary election ballot for mayor of Marietta due to an Ohio Revised Code involving a change in Gold's name within the last five years. Gold received citizenship in the country in 2020 and changed his name in the process as was allowed; however, in this scenario, he would have had to list his name on the ballot as his new name with his previous name, which he did not do. Gold had a reconsideration hearing on Feb. 24 that was also denied which led to him filing his complaint on Mar. 3. The primary election will be taking place this coming May, and this case is still open with no court dates currently scheduled. (Marietta Times)
