Here are the top three stories in Marietta today:

  1. According to the National Weather Service, on Sunday, Mar. 26, officials estimate that the Ohio River will crest at around 29 feet near Marietta. The City of Marietta warns residents to look out for standing water on roadways and to check water levels frequently. (Marietta Ohio via Facebook)
  2. Due to the very low literacy rates of Ohio school children, Governor Mike DeWine signed an executive order creating the governor’s literacy challenge to help improve children’s literacy rates. The Marietta Community Foundation is part of the literary challenge program, with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library sending out more than 11 million books to Ohio families. Additional programs of the new literacy challenge include a Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant, Reaching All Students Through Language and Literacy, Each Child Reads Grant, High-Quality Tutoring Programs, and more.   3. The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley's annual fundraiser, the Fur Ball, is today, Mar. 25, starting at 7 p.m. at the Marietta Shrine Club! This year's theme is "Bark to the 80s" and will feature music from DJs Mixar and Correct, appetizers, auctions, and more. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door, and all proceeds benefit the animals under the Human Society's care. (WTAP)
