Here are the top three stories today in Marietta:
- Marietta officials are still uncertain about joining the Washington County 911 center, citing concerns about the cost of the project and staffing the Marietta police building. Marietta Chief of Police Katherine Warden expressed concerns about not having the police building staffed 24-7 and the cost of hiring staff if they decide to join. While the centralized 911 center could help with dispatch staffing levels, Mayor Schlicher stated that he needed more information before making a decision. (WTAP)
- Marietta College’s Dyson-Baudo Recreation Center hosted the 108th annual Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce dinner this week with over 650 attendees. The event included an award ceremony, keynote speaker Jared Orton, and a meal prepared by Parkhurst Catering. Kelsy Eaton, president and CEO of MACC, highlighted the chamber's accomplishments over the past year, including hosting 17 ribbon cuttings and 45 networking events, and emphasized the chamber's commitment to supporting Marietta's business community. (Marietta Times)
- Marietta's Public Lands, Buildings, and Parks Committee heard two local scouts present their Eagle Scout project plans, which included building a brick and granite sign with six-foot-tall columns at the armory and renovating Indian Acres Park, including building a pavilion by the boat ramps and renovating bathrooms. The second scout suggested possibly converting the bathrooms into storage space for pickleball players. Two resolutions will be written for each project and will be presented at the next city council meeting. (WTAP)
