9 Hurt In Pittsburgh-Area Multi-Vehicle Crash
A vehicle whose driver was fleeing from police was involved in a devastating multi-vehicle crash in the Pittsburgh area Thursday.
PITTSBURGH, PA — A crash involving five vehicles injured nine people in Wilkinsburg on Thursay, authorities said.
The crash occurred near the intersection of Penn and East Swissvale avenues.
According to WTAE-TV, Pittsburgh police detectives were making a traffic stop at a different location when the driver of a black SUV sped off. The crash occurred moments later.

Five of the nine people injured were taken to area hospitals. None of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.
Pittsburgh city council member Khari Mosely was on the scene and offered details on the incident.

"I have just left the scene of the five-car accident in Wilkinsburg, which began with a traffic stop in Pittsburgh," Mosley stated in a Facebook post.
"The driver fled from city police; due to city policy, our officers did not pursue the driver at high speed. At the intersection of Penn and Swissvale, the driver collided with four other vehicles.
Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. Thanks to our officers from Zone 4, Zone 5, Wilkinsburg Police, Pittsburgh EMS, and Pittsburgh Fire for their quick response, incredible teamwork, and brave service."
Police have not yet identified the suspect who was being pulled over.
