Former Steelers Super Bowl Champion Mike Collier Dies

Another member of the Steelers' 1970s dynasty has died.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Mike Collier, a member of the Steelers' Super Bowl winning teams of the 1970s, died Sunday in Maryland. He was 71.

According to an online obituary, Collier died Sunday at a hospital in Hagerstown, MD. No cause of death was provided.

Collier, a running back and kick returner, was drafted out of Morgan State University in the 14th round of the NFL Draft in 1975. He was on the team when the Steelers defeated the Dallas Cowboys 35-31 to win Super Bowl X, providing a key 25-yard kick return that set up the Steelers' winning score.

After not playing in 1976 due to injury, Collier played two seasons for the Buffalo Bills before retiring.

According to ProFootballReference.com, Collier had 370 yards on 86 rushing attempts, 11 receptions for 73 yards and six touchdowns in his NFL career. His first touchdown occurred during his first NFL game against the Chargers.

Collier is survived by his wife and three children.
