Pittsburgh Restaurant Consumer Alert Issued: Here's What Inspectors Found

The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for this popular Pittsburgh restaurant.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for Masala House Asian Bistro, on Baum Boulevard in Shadyside, for numerous health code violations.

During an inspection on Wednesday, several dead roaches observed on glue boards in the kitchen.

Two live mice were found on the second floor in an area being used as a personal living space. A live mouse was discovered on a glue board at the bottom of the stairs.

Many droppings were found on the floor at the bottom of the stairs and on a window sill and floor in the second floor food preparation space. More droppings were located on the floor in the kitchen under the prep cooler across from the cook line, on the bottom shelf next to a prep cooler, under the dish machine, on the floor and shelving under and behind the bar in the customer area and on the floor under the wooden seating bench in the dining room near the street facing window.

Nesting material was found in a cabinet behind the bar.

A restaurant with a consumer alert placard is allowed to operate for a temporary period not exceeding 10 days. Another inspection is conducted either prior to the expiration of the temporary period upon request of the eatery owner or on the tenth day.

If the problems are not corrected within that 10-day window, the business could be ordered to close.
