Abbreviated Flag Display On Newport Bridge: RITBA
The plan was to suspend the flags from the Newport Pell and the Mount Hope bridges, but there was a problem in Newport.

NEWPORT, RI — Last June 29, a U.S. flag was installed on the north tower of the Mount Hope Bridge. In time for the Bristol Fourth of July parade, the flag was the first ever suspended from a state bridge. Friday, Newport was supposed to share in the display of Old Glory. But it was short-lived.
The state did install a flag on the Pell bridge's west tower. But there was a problem.
According to the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority, shortly after the flag went up on the tower, workers discovered a rip. It was a small tear, but out of respect for the flag, RITBA said, the decision was made to take the flag down in Newport.

The American flag will be suspended all weekend on the Mount Hope Bridge. The Turnpike and Bridge Authority says it will display the flags on other holidays on both bridges.
