
NEWPORT, RI —The Newport Bridge has reopened. Police at 1:18 p.m. cleared the accident that shut all lanes down.
The Newport ramps were blocked sometime before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, a reader reported. Fire Chief Brian Dugan said the call about the accident came in around 12:11 p.m. State police said a truck carrying a small trailer jackknifed in the eastbound lanes. The westbound lanes were also closed so police and emergency workers could respond.
Newport police Sgt. Jonathan Cortes said the truck and the attached trailer were the only vehicles involved in the crash. According to the preliminary report, no one was injured, Chief Dugan said.
