Newport: Possible 'Hazmat' Incident At Navy Base Wednesday
The base requested mutual aid from Newport for station coverage. But Naval Station Newport did not respond to questions about what happened.

NEWPORT, RI—The Navy base requested mutual aid from Newport's fire department for "some sort of oil leak," the fire department said. City firefighters provided station coverage on Wednesday afternoon. They were not involved in the incident, however. Engine 1 was sent around 2:44 p.m. and returned at 4:18 p.m., fire Chief Brian Dugan said.
Patch has asked Naval Station Newport for information, but no one immediately replied to questions about what happened. The Naval War College confirmed the problem was not on their campus and forwarded questions to the spokeswoman for the base.
