Newport Parking Meters Return On May 1
No more free parking downtown. The meters will be back on, as of May 1, Newport police said.

NEWPORT, RI — Free parking ends Tuesday, May 1. The meters go live from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. all seven days of the week. They stay on until Oct. 31.
The residential parking spaces also go live May 1, so Newport residents need to have the stickers on the windshield by Tuesday morning.
Newport has two fees for meters. Memorial Boulevard meters at Easton’s Beach cost $2 an hour. The other meters are $1.25 an hour. They take coins or credit cards. The credit card minimum is $1.
