Newport Police Arrest One After Girls' Fight
The second girl is still at large, police said. Both are juveniles.

NEWPORT, RI— Police referred one teen to Family Court and are looking for the second girl after a fight Sunday afternoon on Girard Avenue. According to the police narrative, the two girls nursed a personal dislike and had communicated on social media that they wanted to fight each other. The fight broke out around 4:26 p.m. on the sidewalk in front of Bridgeview Condominiums. Witnesses called police who found one youngster, 17, behind the Mainstay Inn. Both her eyes were bruised, and she had a facial cut. Police treated her for her injuries.
The other girl escaped. She later called her mother, police were told, and said she would not return home until she turns 18. She expects to be arrested and does not want to go back to the training school, her mother said.
The 17-year-old told police she and the other girl were walking in opposite directions on the sidewalk when the other girl started taunting her. She was carrying a box of pizza, and the 17-year-old slapped the box out of her hands. Then the fight started.
