Newport Police: Man Charged For Swiping Midnight 'Steak Bomb'
The store clerk said she would have given the man a slice of pizza, if he was hungry, police said.

NEWPORT, RI — A midnight snack turned into an encounter with a police for a 35-year-old Pawtucket man accused of taking two "Steak Bomb" sandwiches from the Cumberland Farms on Broadway. Jose G. Nobre allegedly picked out two sandwiches and then walked into the rest room. When he came back, the sandwiches were not visible but he stopped by the condiments rack and selected two packages of mayonnaise and appeared to be headed out of the store. At that point, the store clerk asked Nobre if he was going to pay for the sandwiches, which were price at two for $6.79. According to the police narrative, he leaned toward the cash register but then ran out without paying. The clerk told police he was running south on Broadway.
Police said they found him behind the Thompson School with the sandwiches. He was booked at midnight on Tuesday. Nobre is being charged with misdemeanor shoplifting, police said.
