Newport Police: Middletown Man Wanted In Connection With Shooting

Police are looking for Calvin Febles, 21, a suspect in a shooting Tuesday at Festival Field.

NEWPORT, RI — Police are looking for Calvin O. Febles, 21, a suspect in a shooting Tuesday at Festival Field. According to a statement, Febles allegedly shot a 22-year-old Newport man after an argument around 8 p.m. Febles fled.

The victim was initially treated at Newport Hospital for an injury described as a wound in the torso. He was later transferred to Rhode Island Hospital where he is reported in stable condition. Police said the shooting was not random. The victim and Febles know each other. An argument led to the gunfire.

Police have obtained an arrest warrant for him. He is being charged with "using a Firearm When Committing a Crime of Violence, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, and other additional charges," police said.

This incident is not the first time Febles ran into trouble at Festival Field. He was given a 'no trespass' order in 2016. But except for traffic infractions, he has no record, according to the Judicial Portal. He pleaded no contest in September 2017 to a citation for head lamps. Earlier that year, he was found guilty on a speeding charge (1 to 10 mph over the limit). But that charges was dismissed because he has a good driving record. Another citation (for operating without evidence of insurance) was also dismissed.

Anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts is asked to call Newport police at 847-1212.
