Channel 12 news is reporting the former union treasurer will plead guilty to taking money. The U.S. Attorney's office sent Patch the papers.

NEWPORT, RI — A second former police union official is expected to plead guilty to taking money, WPRI-TV is reporting.
The U.S. Attorney's Office this afternoon also gave Patch the court papers that show Adam Conheeny, the Newport Fraternal Order of Police former treasurer, is accused of taking $31,413 from the union's bank account and using the money for personal expenses. He allegedly wrote checks on the union's bank account; he allegedly withdrew money from the bank account; and he also allegedly used the union's debit card to pay for unauthorized items. He was charged with wire fraud because he used the debit card at Foxwoods Casino. That debit card charge was for $204.
Conheeny was a patrol officer.

According to the plea deal, the government will recommend a sentence at the "low end" of the guidelines and will reduce the offense level by at least two levels. The maximum sentence is 20 years in prison, plus three years probation; a $250,000 fine, and a $100 mandatory assessment.
The former union chief, Christopher Hayes, of Middletown, was sentenced last July to six months in federal prison and six months home confinement. He pleaded guilty to taking more than $71,000 from the union. He was a police sergeant.
