Newport: Power Outage Impacting About 1,500: National Grid

NEWPORT, RI -- Customers in Newport lost power around 5 p.m. Sunday. The company said 1,460 were in the dark at 8:30 p.m. Service was supposed to be restored by 9 p.m. National Grid said it was monitoring the weather, and Sunday was a day of howling wind in Newport. No other Rhode Island communities were off the grid. Patch readers said the outage seemed to be in the area around Broadway.
