Newport: Providence Man Charged After Festival Field Assault

The victim was struck in the head with a glass bottle, police allege.

NEWPORT, RI — A man was injured at Festival Field when he was struck in the head with a glass bottle, police said. The incident happened April 8 at 5:55 a.m. Officers arrested Jaylon S. Butler, 26, of Providence, at 7:10 the same morning. He was charged with felony Assault with a Dangerous Weapon or Substance. No plea was entered during the arraignment Tuesday in Newport District Court. Butler was ordered not to have further contact with the victim.
