Newport Woman Arrested Twice In 13 Hours For Same Violation

Police stopped Kelly Kristina, 38, of Newport, twice in almost the same spot for driving with an invalid license.

NEWPORT, RI — Police stopped Kelly Kristina, 38, of Newport, twice in almost the same spot for driving with an invalid license. The second time she had plates that were registered to a different car. The registration was also expired.

According to the police narrative, an officer pulled her over May 2 at 8:45 p.m. at the corner of Broadway and Summer. She was stopped for turning without signaling. But then a check of her license revealed it had been denied, revoked or suspended, and she had been stopped twice before. So this was a third offense, and a misdemeanor. She was given a summons to appear in District Court on May 23. Police also gave her a verbal warning because she was driving a car without any registration.

Then some 13 hours later, police stopped her again at 9:56 a.m. after she was spotted on Malbone Road where did not come to a complete stop at the corner of Admiral Kalfbus. The officer ran her license plate number. It came back as a suspended registration on a Ford. But the car on the road was a Dodge. The officer pulled her over on Dexter, near Hillside.

Kelly's 4-year old daughter was in the car. Kelly told police she couldn't get a ride for her daughter, if she had to go to the station to be booked. Police allowed her to cone back to the station later, since she had been booked the night before. She was charged with the same offense as the night before and given a summons with the same court date. She was also cited for Operation of an unregistered vehicle; and Improper use of evidence of registration. Police seized the license plates.
