Obituary: John Anthony Corr, 91

John Anthony Corr, 91, of Newport, RI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 4, 2016. Born in Providence, RI on August 23, 1924, a son of the late Edward L. Corr and Mary Louise (Murphy) Corr. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Grammar School and De La Salle Academy.

John served in the United States Navy during World War II and retired from General Electric after 36 years. John enjoyed all sports, but had a deep passion for golf. He was a past member of the Wanumetonomy Golf and Country Club in Middletown, RI, the Newport Knights of Columbus and “Cappy’s”. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Newport, RI.

John was the brother of the late Edward J., Henry F. Corr, Julia Ann (Corr) Reed. He was the uncle of the late James Michael “Mike” Corr and Henry Corr Jr.; and the brother-in-law of the late Robert J. Cody. John leaves two brothers, James Leo and Richard Peter Corr as well as his sister, Marie T. (Corr) Cody. He was a beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home; 465 Spring Street, Newport, RI, on Friday May 6, 2016. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church, Spring Street, Newport, RI. Burial will follow at St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
