Obituary: Margaret M. "Peggy" Occaso, 94

Margaret (Peggy) McDonald Occaso, peacefully passed away at her home on Friday, April 8, 2016 surrounded by her family. Margaret was the wife of the late John B. Occaso. She was born in Sanford, Maine on July 28, 1921 to parents Raymond and Alda Vaillincourt McDonald and predeceased by her brother, Raymond (Lucille) McDonald and sister Mildred McDonald.

Margaret was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to everyone she met. She was a Veteran of World War II in the U.S. Army, serving as a Cryptographic Technician. Margaret was stationed in Oro Bay and Hollandia, New Guinea and was awarded the Bronze Star. Margaret also worked as a tour guide for the Preservation Society of Newport, Rhode Island.

Margaret is survived by her children John (Julie) Occaso of Baltic, CT, Eileen (Al) Allard of East Greenwich, RI, Mary Occaso of Newport, RI and Ray Occaso of Kirby, VT; Grandchildren Justin Allard, Heather Allard, Megan Allard, Jason Holder, Brian (Melissa) Holder, Amy (Mark) Vallandingham, Avery Occaso and Kirby Occaso; and Great Grandchildren Brittany Donovan, Nathaniel Allard, Turner and Mari Ana Vallandingham.

Margaret is also survived by her sister-in-law Doris Occaso, of Newport and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at St. Joseph Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport at 10am. Burial with Military Honors at Newport Memorial Park in Middletown, RI.
