Watch: National Police Parade In Newport Sunday

New York City, Hackensack, New Jersey, and San Diego sent cars, bands and officers to honor the police killed in 2017 in the line of duty.

NEWPORT, RI — Police departments from Rhode Island, New England, New York, and New Jersey marched in the National Police Parade on Sunday. San Diego even sent a vintage car. They came to Newport to honor the officers killed in the line of duty in 2017. Here is the list of fallen officers from New York, New Jersey and New England.

New York City sent the police band to the parade. The city lost five officers in 2017: Steven D. McDonald and Miosotis P. Familia died from gunshot wounds. Det. Stephen Kubinski, Ofc. Michael Hance, and Deputy Chief James G. Molloy died of illnesses connected to the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center.

The police were joined by school bands, veterans, scouts and community groups on the parade route from Middletown to Washington Square in Newport. Mayor Harry Winthrop marched. So did Cranston Mayor Allan Fung. Family members of the fallen officers also participated. Cranston police brought the K-9 officers with the dogs. Smithfield, Portsmouth, Middletown, Coventry, Burrillville, Providence, South Kingstown, Jamestown, Rhode Island State Police, Massachusetts State Police, and Somerset, Fall River and Attleboro were among the police departments in the parade.
