Man Allegedly Exposed Himself to Newport, Warren School Girls

The accused man allegedly targeted girls traveling to school and back. Three go to Thompson in Newport.

NEWPORT, RI — A man arrested by Warren police for allegedly exposing himself to a 15-year-old girl while she waited for the school bus is also facing charges in Newport, police said Thursday. Joshua D. Strother, 24, of Warren, was arrested in Warren after the 15-year-old told the school bus monitor and provided a license plate number. He was driving a red Camry slowly past her, she alleged. He went by several times, stopped and called out the passenger window to ask if she wanted a ride. He was not wearing any pants, and he was moving his right hand up and down in the area of his penis, police said the girl told them.

Strother is at the Adult Correctional Institutions on the Warren charge, but he also faces two misdemeanors in Newport for allegedly exposing himself to three Thompson School girls, police said. One was waiting for a friend at the corner of Broadway and Bayview on Feb. 27 at 8:19 a.m. The girls were going to walk to school together, but when a man in a red Camry and no pants drove by, she ran away. He was "waving his private parts at her," she told police. Officers could not find the car.

Two other girls were walking home together when the red Camry came along Kay Street and stopped at every intersection on their way home. The driver had one hand on the wheel, the girls told police.
