Beat the Heat in Woonsocket

Monday is expected to be the first of three days of warm temps and high humidity.

The Forecast: Monday's high temp could reach the lower 90s in Woonsocket, with high humidity and unhealthy ozone levels, according to the National Weather Service. An air quality advisory has also been issued.

Where To Cool Down:  The Woonsocket Senior Center at 84 Social St. is available for you to get in from the heat as an official cooling center today and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are no services (such as food or entertainment) available for the general public, but there's a cool spot for you to sit if you need it.

Stay Cool: The Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency has posted a heat advisory for today. Here's a handy list of tips on how to stay cool. Basically: Drink lots of fluids (not alcohol), stay out of the sun, and don't work too hard if you are outdoors.

Woonsocket Emergency Management advises that young children, the elderly and those people that have respiratory impairments stay indoors and avoid prolonged activity. Also:

  • Residents should check on their neighbors
  • All outside work should be limited during the extreme heat of the day.
  • Drink fluids to avoid dehydration.
  • Pets should be kept cool and have a constant supply of water.
