Charity Blackjack Winner Donates $5,000 to Family Resources Community Action

Brian Hunter of the Twin River Advisory Committee was playing for charity at Twin River Casino in Lincoln June 19 when he won $5,000, donating the prize to Family Resources Community Action in Woonsocket.

Hunter, one of 36 participants at a charity blackjack tournament within the table games opening ceremony, came in second place, and knew just what to do with the winnings. Hunter said he learned about the agency's deeds in Northern Rhode Island after attending an event at Family Resources Community Action’s Employment & Training Center last year. “They are involved in so many areas, helping people with jobs, housing, food and more. It was a great reason to give to a worthy cause,” Hunter said.

“We greatly appreciate this generous donation, particularly at this time we are experiencing a growing need and reduction in our homeless services funding,” said Ben Lessing, Executive Director of Family Resources Community Action. “There is much uncertainty due to sequestration, and these funds will assist us to serve vulnerable children and families during these tough times.”
