Three Woonsocket Schools Rate Above 30 Percent on Chronic Absenteeism

A Channel 12 study of school absenteeism found more than a third of students at Woonsocket High, Woonsocket Middle School and Pothier are chronically absent.

 

Woonsocket High School, Woonsocket Middle School and Pothier School recorded more than 30 percent of their students with "chronic absenteeism," — missing more than 18 school days — last year. 

WPRI Channel 12 recently reported that 17 percent of all students in Rhode Island were classified as chronically absent during the 2011-12 school year, with four Providence high schools reporting more than 50 percent of students on the list.

Locally, Woonsocket High School recorded the higest chronic absenteeism rate at 48.8 percent. Woonsocket Middle School had 39.5 percent, Pothier had 35.4 percent, Coleman had 28.2 percent, Citizens had 27.2 percent, Harris had 24.7 percent, Bernon Heights had 24.5 percent, Globe Park had 21.9 percent and Leo A. Savoie had 20 percent.
