MALDEN, MA — One of Malden’s newest dining destinations recently celebrated its ribbon cutting in the Malden Center area.

The creation of local restauranteur Stacey Zhang, the fast-casual Bam Bam Chicken serves fried chicken, pulled pork sandwiches, fish, chicken and waffles, loaded fries, smoothies and ice cream at its location at the corner of Florence and Pleasant Street, as noted on its website.

Zhang, who also owns the nearby District Kitchen, announced plans to open Bam Bam Chicken last year. The restaurant began a soft opening in December before running a weekend grand opening celebration earlier this month.

“She is going to do well with it,” Duffy said of Zhang in an interview.

Zhang, who has earned success operating multiple sit-down restaurants during her career, told Patch she became interested in the concept that became Bam Bam after observing changes in the restaurant economy.

Hiring for some restaurant positions had grown difficult just as labor costs increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Takeout business boomed in the meantime, posing a promising business model for Zhang.

Bam Bam is now open seven-days a week. Sunday through Thursday hours run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. while Friday and Saturday hours run from 10 a.m. to midnight.
