MALDEN, MA — The Malden Catholic community was joined by city leaders this week for the grand opening of the school’s brand new academic and athletic space.

The school acquired the former Viking Seafood processing plant site across the street from the school’s main building on 50 Crystal St. close to a decade ago and has since turned it into an 80,000 square foot space with $31 million worth of expanded classroom space, STEM labs, and athletic facilities.

The Donovan Fieldhouse, a 35,000-square-foot turf field, makes up the largest portion of the new site. Other athletic additions include the Passacantilli Gymnasium, which features volleyball and basketball courts, and the Grant Family Fitness Center, fully equipped with workout materials from Gronk Fitness.

Another notable academic addition was an 18,000 square foot wing for classrooms and a cafeteria dedicated to the school’s new seventh and eighth graders.

The project was primarily funded through the Malden Catholic Board of Trustees and was built by Timberline Construction.
