Malden Schools To Pilot School Bus Tracking App, Add New Bus Routes

The district plans to begin testing the app with school principals, though it is looking to eventually roll out options for families.

MALDEN, MA — The Malden Public Schools may soon give families a new tool to keep track of their children on the way to and from school in the form of a “Find My Bus” tracking app.

Malden Public Schools Superintendent Ligia Noriega-Murphy discussed the program in a presentation to the School Committee on Monday, saying that the app would let families view their child’s bus location in real time.

The app won’t be available to families for the time being, as school officials first pilot it with individual school principals. Though she didn't provide a specific timeline, Noriega-Murphy said the district is eyeing an eventual broader rollout for parents .

In the meantime, Malden has recently added at least one new bus route in recent weeks, according to Noriega-Murphy. NRT, which contracts as Malden’s school transportation provider, recently onboarded a new driver to staff that route, Noriega-Murphy said.

NRT is now looking to add three more routes in the coming weeks, Noriega-Murphy continued, completing more onboarding to staff those routes.

Noriega-Murphy did not provide individual information on new route maps. But she said district staff would be in touch with families “if anything is going to happen with their bus.”
