MBTA's Orange Line Gets Unprecedented Speed Boost: Report
The speed increase was enacted across four stops north of Boston.

MALDEN, MA — The MBTA announced that its Orange Line trains speeds have been increased by 15 miles per hour, according to a report from WCVB Newscenter 5.
The speed increase will take effect from its most northern stop in Oak Grove to the Assembly station in Somerville. The increase will bring the maximum speed the subway cars travel from 40 mph to 55 mph, making it the highest speed the trains have operated at in more than two decades.
The MBTA said the increase was made possible by a year’s worth of track improvements made between 2023 and 2024.
