Past And Present Malden Mayors Recognized At Gala
The past three leaders of the city came together for a special honor.
MALDEN, MA — Mayor Gary Christenson and his two predecessors were honored together at Cheverus Catholic School’s annual gala.
Mayor Ed Lucey took office in 1992 and served three years as Malden’s mayor. His political career also included time as a City Councilor and State Representative. Lucey was directly succeeded by Richard Howard, who served fifteen years as the leader of the city until 2011. One highlight of his tenure is the construction of five primary schools. Christenson is in his 14th year as Mayor and is well known for being a driving force behind the construction of the new City Hall and Police Stations.
Cheverus’s gala, held at Spinelli's in Peabody is in its ninth year of operation and now serves as a major fundraiser for the private school that has been at 30 Irving St. since 1908.
