Patch: How long have you been doing business in town?
Shulman: I have been in the business since 2017.
Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
Shulman: As a former senior manager in a human services organization, I've always wanted to help people. Through that line of work, I realized how important it was to make correct decisions around housing. It all kind of starts with housing. So I jumped headfirst into the front lines and got my license!

Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?
Shulman: Identifying and accomplishing your goals.
Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?
Shulman: I remember holding an open house for the first listing I ever had. An attendee came up from the basement and told me, "I could tell you right now why this house won't sell." Well, this was my introduction into the world of knob and tube wiring! As many agents do, I was forced to learn on the fly. But, as it turned out, this wasn't really about electrical systems — it was about communication, disclosure and setting expectations. The house did, of course, eventually sell — and for a good number! But that was because we began marketing it to an audience that wouldn't be deterred by this relic of the past.
Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Shulman: There's a moment during the development of a relationship with a client when we connect on an undeniably human level, and it's obvious to both of us. Guards are dropped, they know I'm not the sleazy salesman just trying to get a deal done. And then we move forward, together.
Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?
Shulman: Communication, accountability and authenticity. It's important to me to be real and present with my clients — always.
Patch: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given when it comes to success?
Shulman: Don't try to be everything to everyone. Instead, be you to those who value you.
Patch: Are there any new projects or endeavors you’re working on that you’re extra excited about?
Shulman: I will be hosting a first-time homebuyers class! What makes it so exciting is that rent prices in 2023 really seem to be going through the roof (no pun intended), so it's a great time to proudly respond "NO" to your landlord's rent increase notification, and get out there and build wealth ... This class will likely be on Zoom with an in-person component at a local business (details to come).
