Steinway Artist BK Davis to Hold Concert in Malden Aug 17-19

BK Davis, a renowned musician and Steinway Artist, will perform live at Mystic Side Opera's Wilbur Fiske Haven House in Malden, MA August 17-19. With a career spanning 40 years, Davis has established himself as a master of various musical genres, including jazz, R&B, gospel, soul, and pop. During his illustrious career, Davis has collaborated with music legends such as B.B. King, Billy Preston, and Gerald Albright, showcasing his exceptional skills alongside some of the industry's finest. He has also written original music in partnership with rock and roll icon Little Richard and the talented duo McFadden and Whitehead.

Onstage, BK Davis is an enchanting force, effortlessly traversing a vast array of musical genres. From the sultry melodies of jazz to the soul-stirring rhythms of R&B, from the exuberance of gospel to the infectious beats of pop, Davis's performances are a masterclass in versatility. His fingers dance across the keys with precision and grace, transporting audiences to a realm where melodies reign supreme.

In 2012, BK was recognized with the prestigious achievement of becoming a Steinway Artist, conferred upon only the best pianists of his or her time as selected by Steinway's very own Concert and Artist Department. BK also made history as the first African-American Steinway Artist from Iowa as he took his place alongside music legends like Elton John, Billy Joel, Harry Connick, Jr., Herbie Hancock and Immortal Steinway Artists including Irving Berlin, Benjamin Britten, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Sergei Rachmaninoff.

This concert presents a truly unique opportunity to witness BK Davis's electrifying performance live on stage, and it is all thanks to his special relationship with Mystic Side Opera Resident Artist and Mezzo Soprano, Natalja Sticco. The bond between these two exceptional musicians was forged in 2020 when Davis invited Sticco to collaborate on a remarkable original song he composed titled "Let Me Comfort You" (watch concert video here). Davis has also signed-on with Mystic Side Opera as Composer for their original opera in development, “Shiloh’s Razor” based on Malden author Michael Cloherty’s book Abel Bodied: Murder at the Malden Bank, about the first murder during a bank robbery in the United States, which occurred in Malden in 1863. The opera focuses on the crime’s only witness, William Shiloh, an African American Barber faced with the dilemma of accusing the town’s powerful Postmaster or staying silent to protect himself and his family in the midst of the tensions of the Civil War.

Born and raised in the cradle of jazz, Davenport, Iowa, BK Davis was destined for greatness from the moment he first touched the keys of a piano. Surrounded by a musically inclined family, Davis's talent flourished under the guidance of his father, Bishop Ezekiel Davis, and his mother, Rose Davis, a skilled vocalist in her own right. From a young age, he showcased a remarkable ability to master multiple instruments, including the guitar, organ, and drums. Yet, it was the piano that became the vessel through which Davis would weave his musical magic.
